Sillyinvestor, 2 hour long Japanese movie when you have the time.
Its the continuation of our comments to your last post.
The realisation by big daddy is not unique to us. The Japs understand it too... Its a lot harder for them. We at least got "bananas" that are not saddled with our Confucian scholastic baggage of the past... 成也萧何,败也萧何。 Transition pains. Top knows we have to change, and have started the ball rolling with slogans and visions. The reality is that all of us are products of "robots" ourselves. One hand reaches up towards the fruit of reformation; the other hand clings on to the roots of tradition.
A song dedication to temperament, myself, and all our brethren and sisters who were not exactly dealt with a good set of cards... But hey! I would like to think we had more fun! Especially the detours... Opps! I meant excursions. Wink. Without the weight of expectations on our shoulders, our footsteps are lighter. Cheers! P.S. To those of you just starting out, I was there. I know. If you don't like to climb mountains, don't have to follow others. Rowing down the river is just as fun! Find your own niche. It takes time. It took me at age 30 to find a diamond hole for a diamond peg like myself. That ended my gypsy life of constant job hopping. (For new readers, take a look at My Story tab at the top.) I was lucky. It may take a lifetime for you. The game only ends when we fold our cards. Living is too interesting. Hang on as long as we can!
A song for home based retail traders out there. It's a lonely journey. Some may join a fellowship; or hunt alone as the lone wolf. But at the end of the day, there can only be one ring bearer (in case you don't get it, this is the Lord of the Rings song).
Even though I like you,
it's like you're not interested in me
I prepared myself so many times to have my heart broken
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Because there are many much cuter girls all around me
You wouldn't notice this plain flower
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
While casually listening to the cafeteria music,
I start tapping my feet to the beat
without even realizing it
I can't stop, how I'm feeling
Come on come on come on come on, baby
tell me my fortune!
Love Fortune Cookie!
The future ain't that bad
Hey! Hey! Hey!
You gotta show your smile to get some of that luck
Heart-shaped Fortune Cookie
let's start making our luck better
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Life isn't all that bad
A surprising miracle will come in a surprising way
I feel like we'll be able to love each other somewhere, somehow
I want to confess to you
but I have no confidence in myself
Because I can just imagine your reaction
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
"A girl with a good personality would be nice" is what all the boys say
But looks are an advantage
The ones that always get first place in popularity contests are cute girls
Please! Please! Please! Oh baby!
Look at me!
Love Fortune Cookie,
let's start breaking out of that shell
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Not even God knows what will happen next
Sad Fortune Cookie,
no need to be so negative
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hey! Hey! Hey!
The world is full of love
It makes you forget all the sad things
I believe that tomorrow is another day
Come on come on come on come on, baby
tell me my fortune!
Love Fortune Cookie
The future ain't that bad
Hey! Hey! Hey!
You gotta show your smile to get some of that luck
Heart-shaped Fortune Cookie
let's start making our luck better
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Life ain't all that bad
A surprising miracle will come in a surprising way
I feel like we'll be able to love each other somewhere, somehow
Can't understand a single word; but it gives me an uplifting spirit just by listening.
Every singer is a pro and master in their own right. Each with their own unique singing style and voice.
Young and old, despite their differences, it shows we can still harmonise with one another without having to drown out the tunes of the other singers just to make ourselves stand out.
Dedicated to all who are working in teams (and fellow bloggers - wink wink).
(Yes, it's another SMOL cryptic message to "know sound" out there)
A special song dedication to a Tulip trader friend.
I've noticed very few Investor bloggers put up Youtube songs in their blogs. On the hand, I've found quite a few Trader bloggers share music in their blogs.
I guess Traders are insanely aware of their emotional roller-coaster and inner demons.Music is a way to communicate with our souls.
Music drowns out the deafening white noise of our thinking. Only then can we hear the soft murmurs of our hearts.
Here is the original singer of the song we both like..
Yes, many of the monster hits and our favourite songs from the 70s and 80s were in fact cover versions from the land of the rising sun.
Must hand it to the Japanese. Not only were they strong technologically and economically during that era, their arts and music culture were powderful too!
To break into the lucrative Japanese market was the dream of many singers of that era: Teresa Teng, Judy Ong, Ouyang Fei Fei, etc.
Come to think of it, it's the same with the K-pop groups today too. I've read that 1 month touring in Japan rakes in more revenue than 1 year of activities in Korea for these Korean idol groups. Ah! The wonderful 80s. Disco, Canto and J-pop! Era of my teenage years.
I so miss the annual Japanese red and white song contests that were shown on TV during CNY!
It's a bitter sweet feeling listening to these "oldies". It's a bit weird, as to me, "oldies" are songs from the 50s and 60s era. Can't help but to notice that youth as passed me by...
It doesn't help that the idols and singers I've grown up with are living us one by one.
For those who remember the tune but can't recognise which mandarin song, below is my favourite mandarin cover version.
A song that I (and a person who likes oat meals) enjoy very much.
As my soul heals the shame I will grow through this pain Lord I'm doing all I can To be a better man
If we feel no shame, there's no pain. Does that mean we are perfect? No room for improvement?
I wish I had treated my lady companions a little better... Looking back, I am such a baby. Childish tantrums... Sulking pride... Overblown ego...
The last one patted my head as I asked for forgiveness in her bosom. She smiled and told me she is training me for the next woman. 13 years my junior, she is a lot more mature than me.
I was fortunate to grew up in a 3 generation family.
My maternal ah ma was the only surviving grandparent I knew, and she stayed together with the other 5 of us in my dad's tiny HDB 3 room flat in Queenstown.
I have fond memories of her.
Ah ma was the good cop; while mom was the bad cop. Mom likes to scold and cane me (I'm always up to some mischief!), while ah ma would secretly defy mom by buying me soft drinks (my favourite!) and toys. And we would always say: "Don't tell mom!" with a wink and a smile. Ah ma was my best friend during my early childhood. We spent lots of time together, especially when I only attended kindergarden for one year. As a middle child, I was the "invisible one". I guess looking back and knowing what I know now, that's why I was so naughty! I was seeking and craving for my parent's attention.
Luckily, ah ma sees me and is always there for me.
I followed her when she goes for her morning walks, marketing in the wet-markets, and doing little errands for her by buying cigarettes (now not allowed) and going into the neighbourhood provision shop to find out the "chap-ji-kee" results (written on a calender).
Sadly, ah ma passed away when I was doing my basic military training during national service.
Each time I came back to Singapore for home leave during my 7 years away, I would make a visit to Mt Vernon to say hello to ah ma within the next 1-2 days after arrival.
It's all very natural and impromptu. There's no waiting for an anniversary or being reminded it's that time of year we all "have to" do what's expected of us.
It's not politically correct, but there will always be a favourite child, a favourite sibling, a favourite parent/grandparent, a favourite friend, a favourite teacher, a favourite boss, a favourite employee; and so on....
Deep down we know the reasons why.
Money is indeed helpful; but it can't buy that kind of bonding.
You walked into the party Like you were walking onto a yacht Your hat strategically dipped below one eye Your scarf it was apricot You had one eye in the mirror As you watched yourself gavotte And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner They'd be your partner, and
You're so vain You probably think this song is about you You're so vain I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't you?
You had me several years ago When I was still quite naive Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair And that you would never leave But you gave away the things you loved And one of them was me I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee Clouds in my coffee, and
You're so vain You probably think this song is about you You're so vain I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't you?

Well, I hear you went up to Saratoga And your horse naturally won Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia To see the total eclipse of the sun Well, you're where you should be all the time And when you're not, you're with Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend Wife of a close friend, and
