  2. Hi SMOL,

There was a time in my pri/sec school days that my parents kept asking me to keep an umbrella in my bag, but I am always reluctant to do so because it's heavy and it's uncool. When I started working and going around to student's place, I realised that it's important to keep one in my bag, whatever the weather condition. Why? I am more settled and my self esteem is no longer dependent on how other pple, hence I don't care what is cool or not. More importantly, I can't afford to get sick, as it will mean a few days of misery while I am still out working.

So, bring an umbrella when it rains? Nah, bringing an umbrella has nothing to do with the actual weather condition. It could be (like my case) about coolness, about how heavy it will make your bag, or about whether it will make me ill. It's about preparing yourself for any outcome and coming out fine.

    1. LP,

You have succintly summed up the philosophy of:

      带不带伞,随你便!

Often, we forget about the "first seek to understand, then to be understood" bit...

And to give others room to decide what's best for themselves.

What we tell others or the little lies we say to ourselves, may not be the real genuine reason why we carry an "umbrella"...

Know how others "tick", we can influence them (manipulate is too strong).

Know how we tick, that's how we overcome our own selves ;)

  3. Hi smol

Me last time riding Honda kap go to work will scare of raining. Very leceh, have to stop at roadside wear the ugly yellow rain coat.
Then riding that time, due to my helmet dun have faceshield, the rain hit on my face really pain 1, especially I riding the opposite direction of the rain... somemore I wear spec, so not easy for me to see the road if too heavy. Got to stop somewhere to wait for rain stop. If drizzling then I normally won't stop just tahan till my destination.
But I like to relax in coffee shop or at house if outside raining... enjoy the rain scene just chill :)

I like to sit by the window with a hot cup of coffee and watch the rain outside.

Its Mother Nature way of giving me an excuse to pause and relax for a while.

      Do nothing and chill.

I'm not a hamster; see wheel must run all the time ;)

These kind of Honda cub motorcyles are great for crowded cities and in the country side. They are like the e-scooters of today.

In Taiwan, they call them 小绵羊。

      Cute right?

      LOL!

    5. sy sy,

      OMG!

      That's even more ancient!!!

I've only seen the blue and white or red and white Honda cubs.

Grey ones I've seen in some workshops before... I suspect they are saving them for "decorating" the workshop?

      LOL!

I like the Italian Vespas ;)

I even wrote a blog post on them:

      Me and my scooter

  4. If you are staying in HDB heartland and don't paying any extra bus trips, you are well covered without carrying umbrella

    1. CW,

Yes, there are lots of covered walkways in HDB, but then again, I can also say if one stays at quiet, secluded landed properties not served by public transport, we are also covered without carrying umbrellas because we would be driving or being chauffeured in private cars ;)

  6. temperament,

    Yup, I know that experience.

I was in primary school and as always, I was looking out the window daydreaming watching the rain outside...

Suddenly saw a flash of lightning hit the ground behind the old Lim Yee Hock 4 walkup storey apartments.

A few seconds later, a loud thunder clap shock through the whole classroom.

Hee, hee. I was prepared. Saw it coming so not surprised. You should see the faces of my female teacher and fellow students!

Power man! You can feel the sound through our bodies. Like those kickass speakers from a concert ;)

  7. Some lessons in life have to be learnt through suffering the consequences. Why worry about something that seldom happens? The logic of bringing umbrellas in case of rainy days may be sound on paper but it's hard to get people to follow.

As a parent, I believe my kids will follow the same footsteps of learning through suffering the consequences for some life lessons. We can only pray the consequences are not fatal and not too devastating. In the mean time, parents can prepare a secret safety net for them if we have the means.
