Can't assume all readers to this watering-hole are from my generation.
Some of the words and stories I've shared in the comments may flew over the heads of younger readers who don't share the same context and experience growing up.
I would like to share this very memorable Twilight Zone episode to you - To Serve Man.
That is why I cringe whenever I hear some snake oil proudly shares it's his "mission" to create X number of millionaires in Singapore!
I immediately think of this Twilight Zone episode. Wink.
By the way, if you are financially literate, you wouldn't want anyone and everyone to be a "millionaire" in Singapore.
That would be pointless.
Just visit Indonesia or Vietnam.
Anyone and everyone there are Indonesian Rupiah or Vietnamese Dong millionaires!
It is okay when my investment course trainees are all millionaires while I became multi -millionare.
ReplyDeleteCW,
DeleteBut of course!
Nothing is "free", is it?
Those US citizens so happy with the "free" Wuhan virus lockdown paychecks...
Free?
Some have realised they are paying for it with higher food and energy prices now...
But of course, it's never US big daddy's fault! Putin is blame for everything!
Hi Smol,
ReplyDeleteHaving enough to last the lifetime is content as per my perspective.
It does not have to be much and varies from one to one individual.

WTK,
DeleteWhen I see people seek answers from strangers "how much" they need to FIRE or for retirement at age 65, it's a dead giveaway they have not embraced "spirituality" in their lives yet....
It makes as much sense as asking what's the "most popular" shoe size and using it to buy your own shoes!?
In the same vein, some of the debates on whether the 4% withdrawal rule is too risky or "safe" can be a bit hilarious!
When the simple and obvious answer is like you've said - it varies from individual to individual ;)
Smol,
ReplyDeleteOnly one knows how much is sufficient for FIRE. There is no need to RE if one does not desire to do so. It is entirely up to one to achieve such spirituality.
I believe that the reason of one having such fear of the figure of "enough" is the imposing of views of others on one. This makes one feel confused and the oddity of not deviating from norms making it worse. The best approach is to ignore the noise and focus on making decision based on own preference and desire. I know that it is hard but it can be done.
Zen comes into the picture and makes the decision easier.

Thinking too much is like muddying the waters...
Do the bird above or the fish in the lake worry whether got enough for old age?
The day humans discover the secret to immortality (like trees), die!
How to "retire" like that!!!
When we live forever and ever?
Hi SMOL,
ReplyDeleteI remember the Twilight Zone and the Outer Limits, but I can't recall the above episode
It frightened me as a kid, but dunno why I kept watching
Langoliers too...
Unintelligent Nerd,
DeleteThese TV series are both fun and frightening!
There's also Hammer House of Horrors which can be even terrifying!
And there's this British Sapphire and Steel TV series which combined ghosts with sci-fi! I liked it a lot!
Good times!
Young that time really hungry eat, tired rest!!!
No cultivation needed ;)
