Sunbird on my laundry?

Thanks to the eBird website that I stumbled onto while writing my Dawson birdwatching post, I am guessing this little bird that flew onto my laundry is an Olive-backed Sunbird?

It looks like a fledgling. So I can't be sure.

I was showering in the evening at around 7 pm when I heard a series of loud and sharp chirpings.

I thought there must be a bird on the ari-con ledge or something.

As I went to my laundry yard, this little Sunbird (can fit on your palm) was resting on my laundry along the horizontal laundry bars.

It looked sleepy and tired. I left it alone after taking the pictures with my mobile.

You know what?

It slept the whole night there.

Only flew away in the morning when I checked on it around 6.30 am while making coffee.

It brought a smile to my day,

Little pleasures of life!

  1. Smol,

I have a feeling that it will come back.

Do consider keeping it as a pet.

    1. WTK,

I hope it will come back one day too.

      What?

Deprive the little bird of its freedom?

If I wanted pets, I would have started my own church long ago...

      LOL!

    1. Unintelligent Nerd,

Yes, its nice to learn a new hobby and have a new interest!

Dawson has a lot of greenery; can attract quite a few species of birds here.

I also would like to learn the names of the many flowers and plants all over Singapore.

      Baby steps.

    2. Hi SMOL,

Your home must have felt safe and cozy enough to attract the Sunbird haha.

Nature watching is a splendid hobby - relaxes the mind and body.
I used to go Gardens by the Bay often when I had the membership and learnt a great deal on various flower species. Can't do bird-watching though, eye sight too poor and no right equipment lol.

    4. Rainbow girl,

Unfortunately, my flat too inviting for unwanted pests too...

I was surprised at 40 storey, still got mosquitoes!? OK, only 3 attacks over 6 months in the night, but still...

Got spiders (the black fighting kind) and interesting different species of lizards with chameleon spots and colours; different from the biege generic ones!

I'm playing "Tower Defence" with ants trying to invade my flat and make nest inside the kitchen cabinets. I'm winning at the moment.

But I've lost the battle with fruit flies... How on earth these tiny little fruit flies fly all the way up 40 storeys???

Maybe they are breeding on the water-tank roof?

NParks have brought in quite a few new flowering plants to spice up with colours our roadsides . Will slowly google them for their names ;)

I'm lucky the Alexandra Canal Linear Park is just a few steps away!
