Skyville@Dawson Bird Watching

This morning, while walking back after buying breakfat at Magaret Drive Hawker Centre, I spotted a group of photographers around Skyville@Dawson.

Talk about "powderful" lenses... Some are humongous! So big!

I can empathise with the man in front in the grey shirt, "Shit! My one smaller than others..."

Star gazers?

No. It's broad day light. What are they looking at???

I walked in closer with my Xiaomi mobile to have a better look.

Nope. Couldn't see a thing. I must be blind. Then again, there's only so much we can do with a mobile digital zoom...

Then I realised they may think I'm trolling them with my mobile, worn-out T-shirt, slippers, and most damning of all, my "dabao" breakfast for mom in the other hand...

So I nonchalantly backed-off into the back pretending nothing happening. No eye contact, no eye contact.

After going home, I goggled and found this website eBird where I found Skyville and Alexandra Park Connector are known sites for bird spotting in Singapore.

I not into bird watching, but I'm into people watching. Wink.

P.S.   Me with my mobile is a bit like when we were bei kambings starting out in trading/investing, isn't it?

Ah! Those were innocent days indeed!

That's until we discovered we were competing with other craftsmen with their monster lenses!!!

LOL!

    1. Cory,

      They are Rain Trees.

They are best for giving shade during hot days as these trees are umbrella shaped.

Kudos to the National Parks Board and HDB for their conservation efforts to "rescue" and not cut down these mature trees in Queenstown!

Rejuvenating Queenstown with new BTO projects is meaningless when we do away with everything that connects us to the past.

These trees are my age, if not older!

The reason they look "special" is because our trees are "manicured" like bonsai in Singapore - very first world country!

Big daddy has phased out the ubiquitous Angsana trees (with their unique winged seeds) in Queenstown as they were a mistake - their branches break easy during thunderstorms.

The reason these Rain trees look "special" and "airy" is because big daddy has pruned the trees so that each main branch can only have so many sub-branches to not overload and break during heavy rain.

If left to themselves like during my primary school days, the whole tree would be covered by bushy leaves!

Don't talk about taking pictures of birds in the trees, we can't even see the individual branches!!!

The pruning of trees is to minimise trees or branches falling on cars and pedestrians.

The unintended benefit is it makes bird spotting a lot easier!

    1. CW,

Yup. I like to spend time watching the world go by. Especially at cafes or fast-food outlets where I can people watch ;)

    4. CW,

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

he leadeth me to beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the

paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley

      of the shadow of death,

      I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;

they rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me

in the presence of mine enemies:

      thou anointest my head with oil;

      my cup runneth over.

      Surely goodness and mercy shall

follow me all the days of my life:

and I will dwell in the house

      of the Lord for ever.

    5. Hi CW,

So sorry to hear about it. Take care.

I hope you get well soon so that you can continue to have fun enjoying your journey of long-term investing and short-term trading. If it is causing too much stress instead, maybe you can start another blog focusing on health instead.

    1. Rainbow girl,

I started out with SLR (single lens reflex) film camera (used by pros), then regressed to idiot proof digital compact camera (used by amateurs), and now downgraded to mobile phone (anyone and everyone)!?

      LOL!

Similarly, I dreamed of having 4 trading monitors when trading part-time.

After trading fulltime, I realised all I needed was a freaking laptop. Although having a 2nd screen would be even better ;)

Tried a few "pro" trading platforms - those used by prop traders. Got lost with headache. Reverted back to "retail" platform.

We must match the "right" tool for the "right" job.

If I interested in bird/nature photography, then a mobile phone may not be the right tool...

But if I'm into candid photography, then I can argue a mobile phone may be better than those bulky and intimidating "professional" SLR cameras ;)

Bei kambings think having "better or more" tools will make them more competent.

Craftsmen know how to pick the right tool for the right job.

      Wink.

    2. Hi SMOL,

Yes, right tool for the right job!

Must know how to use the tool correctly too, otherwise it becomes just for "wayanging".

Like bei kambing me have no idea why traders need 4 monitors. Give me 4 I also don't know how to use correctly haha.

    3. Rainbow girl,

My personal realisation is that the shorter our trading time frames, the more monitors we use.

I've gone through trading by making a phone call to my dad's remisier, then moved on to internet trading using 56K dial-up modems, to superfast fibre-broadband today, and now using mobile trading platform to check prices on the go.

Am I a better trader due to better technology?

      Nah!

But technology sure makes it more convenient when I'm ready to squeeze the trigger ;)
