    2. 1) CW,

"Ang moh" New Year no "ba gai" lah!

Cannot tahan. New Year fisherman becomes "gu niang"?

      Eeeee here eeee there...

      Hello!

      2) Rolf,

I must steer it back before you and CW usurp the beauty of 无常.

The me of today is not the same me of yesterday. The me of tomorrow has yet to come so why bother?

It's like using discounted cash flow analysis. After making the 3rd assumption, hands up anyone who feels its nothing more than sticking your index finger into your mouth and sticking it back up into the air?

      Little lies...

    1. Small Time Investor,

When the market goes up, we revel in our bountiful unrealised profits.

But when the reverse happens, we despair to the pits with nightmares of potential huge irreversible losses.

In both cases, it's the same companies, same stocks, same positions.

      What has changed?

External as in the wind or the flag moving?

Or internal as in our hearts moving?

Today I am full of confidence and conviction. Tomorrow I may be torn by self-doubt.

Today I am here. Tomorrow I may be gone.

If I am gone, have I lived in the first place?

Now who am I before I was born?

      LOL!

      Thanks Small Time Investor!

Your words triggered some frivolous meandering of my thoughts :)

  5. Hi SMOL,

    So philosophical? :)

In Engrish - it's "Change is the only Constant". Actually the meaning of the sentence also includes the sentence, so that means that there's a paradox!

My feeling is that there's only change when time passes. If we can stop time or the perception of time, then there's no change. So how do we freeze time? Be so involved in the present that you don't even know that time passes. To me, that's as close to freezing time as possible. It's called being 'in-the-zone'. When working on something you're so passionate in, you lose all track of time - you start living in the moment, and you then you forgot that anything changes at all, including time. Everything is just focused on the task at hand - that's being in the zone.

Next question? How to be in the zone? Practice mindfulness loh. Hungry, eat. Sleepy, sleep.

    1. LP,

      There you go!

Mindfulness as in awareness of the here and now ;)

To the untrained eye, you comment at B's blog may seem contradictory... Au contraire!

      1) You have a war chest ready in contrast to those who only have a plan. When the event happens, you just squeese the trigger - No Mind.

While those who just have a plan may be fretting where to raise the cash!?

      2) You are researching on what components to upgrade for your aging PC. Where to buy them. At what prices. And how to install them - DIY or ask a hobbyist shop to do it for you.

Once you are done; you put it down. There's nothing more to do.

Mindfulness does not mean no planning or goal setting.

It's just that we don't continue to live in the future when we are done.

We love to live in the future as its where we can bend realities to fit our plans and goals. Hence we call it fantasizing or day-dreaming.

Who wants to come back to the here and now? Reality is a bitch!

      LOL!

  6. Hi SMOL,

Lol, still can cross-reference between blogs one...you power!

When I'm planning, I'm really focused on the planning. I don't second guess whether it's too my plans are too fanciful, or that I won't follow, or that I won't be happy after I've achieved or sad when I failed to achieve it. I leave it for the reflection bit after I've carried out the plan. That's mindfulness.

When I'm doing, I don't second guess my plans. I don't say it's too hard and this year is special and so on, I just carry it out as best as I based on the circumstances right now. There's a time to review, but not when I'm doing it. Nike's slogan must have a second part in invisible ink - Just do it ( and think later). That's mindfulness.

At least I try lah :)

To savour the present, while carrying the burdens of the past and walking towards the future...not easy leh. But can try :)
