It's how I React that matters

"No one reacts to things as they are but to one's own mental images; Keep me aware that it is not what happens to me in life that matters, but how i react to what happens."

Amen.

By an anonymous Christian.

This post is a dedication to temperament who has tirelessly spread the above saying in quite a few blogs and forum already.

Buddhist friends can easily identify with the above saying - it's about Awareness isn't it?

If we are not in the here and now, how do we see things as they are? And not misled into thinking it's the wind moving or the flag flapping in the wind; it's our hearts moving...

This is the time of year where many will start planning new goals and new year resolutions for 2015. That's the easy part.

Why easy?

Everyone and anyone and do goal settings and planning. And if everyone and anyone can do it, it's a low level skill. No? Think about it for a moment.

Now review 2014 - are there any instances you wished you had responded or reacted better to what had happened to you? You didn't plan that, did you?

See the difference?

LOL! Don't think too hard!

P.S.  I'll be working this Christmas and New Year to contribute my part to servicing the general public during the holidays - I guess that's why they call it the service industry - someone has to do it.

I sincerely hope we can spread the holiday cheers to all co-workers and professionals working during the holidays.

A Merry Christmas to our Bus Captains, a Happy Holidays greeting to the salesperson or waiter serving you, a hug to our angelic nurses and doctors on duty, and if you are shy, a simple Smile will do just fine. We appreciate it.

And do be a little patient, a little bit more understanding if we fail to live up to your expectations - more customers and reduced manpower are not exactly helping.

Happy Holidays everyone!

  1. yap, same as my trading philosophy ($^#@^&!), me 90% react, only 10% or less proactive.

i always feel holidays are unnecessary, you still can take breaks anytime you want if you are working right? anyhow

    1. coconut,

For people like you who were born to trade, the holidays must be tough on you...

Come, sit down. Have a cup of kopi; and a char shao pao ;)

After all the huff and puff, STI is pretty much where it started 2 weeks ago.

Those who shorted happy; those who bought the dip also happy. All is right; all were wrong.

1 step forward; 2 steps back. 2 steps forward; 1 step back.

      Everyone doing the cha-cha-cha.

Come, have a cup of kopi!

  2. temperament,

    You're most welcomed!

Yes, it would be interesting to hear the different views of other readers out there.

    Spiritual or non-spiritual :)

  3. same view from a different angle,

if you want to, there is always cause for regrets, but if we need to than there will be no regrets.

    1. B,

      Thank you.

A man has to have a purpose. If I can help a family have a great shopping experience, it's all worth it :)

I still have a bit of guilt having my sabbatical.

I trade to achieve; but the eagerness to call myself a "trader" is dead giveaway as an act to "escape".

Ah! The unbearable lightness of being!

Merry Christmas to you and wife, and the 2 "jude" ladies to the right of your wife ;)

      Blushing.

  5. Hi SMOL,

I still remember when I did part time job, I always go for holidays and weekends as the pay is double.

My part time job is hell lucrative for an undergraduate then, we test and commission the ezy-link system that everyone is using now on busses then. Fix it up, test it, collect data.

Christmas Eve ? Count me in. new year eve? Count me in! Double shift of 18 hours, count me in ! Youth is money LOL.

Err... Can report at 1230 am for Christmas eve? Can! Oh!! Double pay somemore.

    Mercenary people easily happy

    1. Merry Christmas Blog Aggregator Boss!

You are in good company; as you can see from the comments - or lack of from the "younger" readers ;)

When we were young, we rely more on what we have been TAUGHT.

As we accumulate more life experiences, we rely more on what we have LEARNT.

      :)

  8. my wife not too long ago found an ideal job somewhere near ubi, she went to work for them.

she describe her job as follows,

no need to come in time, come anytime you want, really?

come in and see what you want to do, but if you don't feel like working, you can just sit around and see others do, really!

if you are hungry, you can eat whatever is there, anytime!

best of all, you can leave without permission anytime you want and still come back for work the next day! really!

    i'm no kidding!

  11. coconut,

    You the best!

Knowing you, you probably didn't plan it. But to any marketing or advertising person, you have used the textbook AIDA example:

Attention - You certainly commanded our attention!
Interest - Created an interest from the questions asked for more info ;)
Desire - Aroused a desire in us.
    Action - There was action.

Now that's a creatiive way to spread greater awareness of this non-profit charitable organisation!!!

I can imagine you trading in your dungeon and she keeps poking her head in to kaypoh you:

Eh! Go to take a shower!

      Time to makan!

      Take out the trash!

    4. Ha ha!

You gave them the ice bucket challenge!

My futures broker just called me to sign new forms to access the market data for the 4 CME exchanges...

No wonder they shifted the contracts between the 4 exchanges recently. So can charge subscription fees for EACH and EVERY exchanges!

Oh well, got to pay USD17 per month from 01 Jan 2015 onwards :(

I hope SGX don't get any funny ideas...

Lucky my futures trading account has gotten bigger to justify the new expenses. If not, I would have gone back to CFDs!
