It's how I React that matters
"No one reacts to things as they are but to one's own mental images; Keep me aware that it is not what happens to me in life that matters, but how i react to what happens."
Amen.
By an anonymous Christian.
This post is a dedication to temperament who has tirelessly spread the above saying in quite a few blogs and forum already.
Buddhist friends can easily identify with the above saying - it's about Awareness isn't it?
If we are not in the here and now, how do we see things as they are? And not misled into thinking it's the wind moving or the flag flapping in the wind; it's our hearts moving...
This is the time of year where many will start planning new goals and new year resolutions for 2015. That's the easy part.
Why easy?
Everyone and anyone and do goal settings and planning. And if everyone and anyone can do it, it's a low level skill. No? Think about it for a moment.
Now review 2014 - are there any instances you wished you had responded or reacted better to what had happened to you? You didn't plan that, did you?
See the difference?
LOL! Don't think too hard!
P.S. I'll be working this Christmas and New Year to contribute my part to servicing the general public during the holidays - I guess that's why they call it the service industry - someone has to do it.
I sincerely hope we can spread the holiday cheers to all co-workers and professionals working during the holidays.
A Merry Christmas to our Bus Captains, a Happy Holidays greeting to the salesperson or waiter serving you, a hug to our angelic nurses and doctors on duty, and if you are shy, a simple Smile will do just fine. We appreciate it.
And do be a little patient, a little bit more understanding if we fail to live up to your expectations - more customers and reduced manpower are not exactly helping.
Happy Holidays everyone!

yap, same as my trading philosophy ($^#@^&!), me 90% react, only 10% or less proactive.
ReplyDeletei always feel holidays are unnecessary, you still can take breaks anytime you want if you are working right? anyhow
merry christmas.
coconut,
DeleteFor people like you who were born to trade, the holidays must be tough on you...
Come, sit down. Have a cup of kopi; and a char shao pao ;)
After all the huff and puff, STI is pretty much where it started 2 weeks ago.
Those who shorted happy; those who bought the dip also happy. All is right; all were wrong.
1 step forward; 2 steps back. 2 steps forward; 1 step back.
Everyone doing the cha-cha-cha.
Come, have a cup of kopi!
so long as volatility remains i got no complains.
Deletecoconut,
DeleteYup! It's a lot more fun for traders now that volatility has returned :)
temperament,
ReplyDeleteYou're most welcomed!
Yes, it would be interesting to hear the different views of other readers out there.
Spiritual or non-spiritual :)
same view from a different angle,
ReplyDeleteif you want to, there is always cause for regrets, but if we need to than there will be no regrets.
Hi SMOL
ReplyDeleteA good samatarian who has contributed to the public, double thumbs up to you!!!
Some took the Dec month to celebrate, some to reflect, and some to contribute. Well done Sir!!!
B,
DeleteThank you.
A man has to have a purpose. If I can help a family have a great shopping experience, it's all worth it :)
I still have a bit of guilt having my sabbatical.
I trade to achieve; but the eagerness to call myself a "trader" is dead giveaway as an act to "escape".
Ah! The unbearable lightness of being!
Merry Christmas to you and wife, and the 2 "jude" ladies to the right of your wife ;)
Blushing.
Hi SMOL,
ReplyDeleteI still remember when I did part time job, I always go for holidays and weekends as the pay is double.
My part time job is hell lucrative for an undergraduate then, we test and commission the ezy-link system that everyone is using now on busses then. Fix it up, test it, collect data.
Christmas Eve ? Count me in. new year eve? Count me in! Double shift of 18 hours, count me in ! Youth is money LOL.
Err... Can report at 1230 am for Christmas eve? Can! Oh!! Double pay somemore.
Mercenary people easily happy
Sillyinvestor,
DeleteWow! You have been busy in your youth!
Well, like they say, whatever makes you happy, can oredi!
Just say no to drugs and drink driving though ;)
Happy holidays!

Sillyinvestor,

That might be Santa Man of Leisure ! haha

DeleteMy cosplay gig "pecha"!
One of the final objectives for 2014 for this week:
DeleteFIND SMOL IN ORCHARD ROAD!!!
We bring his picture and look out for him :)
B,
DeleteHa!
I'll switch to my Santarina gear. You won't recognise me!
Now where did I put my push-up bra....
I remember when I had my first sales job at Metro Orchard while waiting for my O' levels result, the 2 santarinas were so pretty. Funny how after all these years, I suddenly thought of them...
LOL!
SMOL,
DeleteU working at Tanglin mall? Saw a bald smiling man in a shop that look like your blur photo.
Are u working today??
SMOL on OT?
DeleteOh... Lucky I never go: Hi SMOL!!
DeleteLook like u.
Sillyinvestor and CW,
DeleteNope. I only work on Saturdays and Sundays plus public holidays.
Today is Tuesday and movie watching day! Just watched Hobbit just now ;)
Hi SMOL,
ReplyDeleteToo 'qim' to grasp the essence. Live and be merry. Merry Xmas to you and a blessed New Year.
Cheers!
Merry Christmas Blog Aggregator Boss!
DeleteYou are in good company; as you can see from the comments - or lack of from the "younger" readers ;)
When we were young, we rely more on what we have been TAUGHT.
As we accumulate more life experiences, we rely more on what we have LEARNT.
:)
my wife not too long ago found an ideal job somewhere near ubi, she went to work for them.
ReplyDeleteshe describe her job as follows,
no need to come in time, come anytime you want, really?
come in and see what you want to do, but if you don't feel like working, you can just sit around and see others do, really!
if you are hungry, you can eat whatever is there, anytime!
best of all, you can leave without permission anytime you want and still come back for work the next day! really!
i'm no kidding!
oh i forgot to mention, transportation are provided to and fro!
DeleteWa coconut,
ReplyDeleteCan intro the job? I ask my wife to go. Still recruiting ??
ofcos, whoever interested can go! wait i go get the info.
Deleteaddress : 11 Jalan Ubi Blk 6, #01-51 Chai Chee Community Hub, 409074
Deletetel (i think) : 64765822
but wait! its a non profitable organisation.
Deletetransportation provided but you have to pay la,
and worst of all, no pay no allowance!
my wife also work as a gardener, anyone interested haha...
Deleteyes it is,
ReplyDeleteeven with such a good condition for working, they still very short of man (woman) power, according to my wife haha..
i had been there once but you know, i'm no good at cooking stuff, my wife say i can do delivery, and off i speed off...
....back home!
coconut,
ReplyDeleteYou the best!
Knowing you, you probably didn't plan it. But to any marketing or advertising person, you have used the textbook AIDA example:
Attention - You certainly commanded our attention!
Interest - Created an interest from the questions asked for more info ;)
Desire - Aroused a desire in us.
Action - There was action.
Now that's a creatiive way to spread greater awareness of this non-profit charitable organisation!!!
it was totally accidental!
Deletecos my wife keep asking me to drove her there and worst still, ask me to work with her as well.
and you know why she wants to go there?
her own word, kaypoh kaypoh!
coconut,
DeleteWell, better she kaypoh others than to kaypoh you the whole day ;)
I can imagine you trading in your dungeon and she keeps poking her head in to kaypoh you:
Eh! Go to take a shower!
Time to makan!
Take out the trash!
Are you alive? You not moving!?
LOL!
she just step out the house as i speak, she can kaypoh whatever she like except financial matters, no touch no see and don't ask! beside that she is very independent!
Deleteshe even conduct investment course for her 2 friends (this is not the first time), with me as their teacher haha, obviously she doesn't know the different between trading and investing and think i'm the investment guru just becos i trade shares. they all think alike, how to make money and make it fast only ended up me throwing cold water on them.
Ha ha!
DeleteYou gave them the ice bucket challenge!
My futures broker just called me to sign new forms to access the market data for the 4 CME exchanges...
No wonder they shifted the contracts between the 4 exchanges recently. So can charge subscription fees for EACH and EVERY exchanges!
Oh well, got to pay USD17 per month from 01 Jan 2015 onwards :(
I hope SGX don't get any funny ideas...
Lucky my futures trading account has gotten bigger to justify the new expenses. If not, I would have gone back to CFDs!
