The Rain

It was a busy
Morning, about 8:30, when an elderly
  gentleman in his 80's
Arrived to have
Stitches removed from his thumb.
He said he was in a hurry
As he had an
Appointment at 9:00 am.
I took his vital
Signs and had him take a seat,
knowing it would be over
An hour before someone
Would to able to see him.
I saw him looking at his
Watch and decided, since I
Was not busy with another patient,
I would evaluate
His wound. On exam, it was
Well healed, so I talked to one of the
doctors, got the
Needed supplies to
Remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of
His wound, I asked him if he
had another doctor's
 appointment this morning, as
He was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he
needed to go to
The nursing home to eat breakfast
with his wife.
I inquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there
For a while and that she
was a victim
Of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we
Talked, I asked if she would be
upset if
He was a bit late.

He
Replied that she no longer knew
who he was,
That she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you
Still go every morning, even though she doesn't
Know who you are?'

He smiled as he
Patted my hand and said,

'She doesn't know me, but
I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back
Tears as he left, I had goose bumps
on my arm,
And thought,
'That is
The kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is
Neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an
Acceptance of all that is,
Has been, will be, and will not be.

The
Happiest people don't necessarily
have the
Best of everything; they just make
The best of everything they have.

'Life isn't about
How to survive the storm,
But how to dance
in the rain.'
We are all getting Older
Tomorrow may be our turn.

  1. For stories that I've stolen with pride, I frequently will refresh them with a new twist or put it in a different light.

    Add my SMOL's touch so to say ;)

    This story is an exception. I've copy paste 99%

    It's that good.

    I found it in my email from my best friend. She's a good friend. Never tired of sharing Grace to a hedonistic agnostic pagan.

    1. LP,

      I see what you mean. I can see the pics in firefox but can't see them in IE.

      I just copy paste them from gmail. I see blogger is pulling the pics from gmail when it loads.

      I try again. This time I download the pics to me c:drive and upload them to blogger like for my previous posts.

      Hope this works. Ah! The mysteries of IT...

      Thanks for the heads-up!

    1. Precisely Ronian!

      There must be a balance between planning for the future and living for the moment.

      How many times have we pushed back dancing in the rain so we can better prepare for a storm that may or may not come?

      After I graduate;
      after I have a job;
      after I got promoted;
      after I get married;
      after we have children;
      after the children have grown up;
      after I retire;
      after...

    3. SMOL,
      What can i say... "Great posting, great posting.
      And the "AFTER,after" reminds me of after about 30 years i suddenly dare to buy on the spot my first private property (albeit only a shoebox for rent seeking first,later maybe as old couple's abode).
      GREAT POST.

    4. Temperament,

      Life in Singapore is not so bad for an ITE guy is it?

      After 30 years, it's still planning and living as "a couple".

      Envy and admiration.

      I've found physical and romantic love; but I've yet to find true love.

      The problem lies with me. My heart too hyperactive and some say flowery... I'm so superficial!

      LOL!

    5. Yes, it is never ever easy to find "TRUE LOVE".
      i always tell my son if you are choosing a life partner or soul mate, go for a person who always shows a little more willing to give than to receive.
      Me? i think i am giving if the situation warranted it. Sorry, i mean i keep a low profile but ready to be the "Last Refuge" for somebody who really has nobody to turn to.
      The saying or teaching, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" is really very, very true. It is because God has blessed you that you can give without receiving any thing in return. Shalom & Amen.

    6. For men and women ...

      Two is Good!

      Once there was a woman who kept chanting the goodness of singlehood on SundayTimes.

      When people talked about their children, she talked about her niece.

      Finally, she realized in her 40s, two is Good and got married!

    7. CW8888,

      It's interesting they sleep in separate rooms because of air-con.

      JC sweet-hearts some more.

      Sometimes in life we may have to make a big detour to come back to square one :)
