The Song of Malaysia's GST

The last time I posted this Hokkien rendition of "Let It Go".

Thanks to my cutest friend coconut sharing with me, I must share with you all this Cantonese version of Beyond's 海阔天空.

Super funny and very creative!

And don't forget to appreciate the vocals and lead guitar parts. Excellent!

Damn! I wish I can sing like that...

A special shout-out to our Malaysia cousins. We Singaporeans have a 21 years head start over you. I know that KNS feeling.

But it will soon pass. Trust me.

Death and taxes.

    1. calving777,

      I'm Teochew.

Grew up in the 70s before the Speak Mandarin Campaign ;)

My Cantonese is learned from watching Feng Bo Bo black and white movies and Chow Yun Fatt TV dramas like Man in the Net.

Hokkien was very useful when I travel to Taiwan and Xiamen, and Cantonese when visiting HK and Guangdong.

This is one area I disagree with big daddy. Glad they have relaxed the no dialects media clamp down nowadays.

  3. what attract me most is the expression of the singer, especially after reading malaysian flogging to buy things to beat the GST. they really don't know what they are doing. the sense of confusion.

    1. coconut,

Yup. Quickly go buy the big screen TV, new refrigerator, and other big ticket items and save on the 6%!

I hope our GST will not exceed 10% .

In Sweden, they pay 20% sales tax and some idiot in Singapore will say Sweden got free education and free health care, etc.

      Free my foot!

  5. temperament,

We can even throw in some bazaar Malay and Tamil words like "Deh?"

At our HDB in Queenstown, we mix with Malays and Indians.

People of my generation and above are pretty multi-lingual!

  6. temperament,
This reminds of the phrase " on the bed, suspending a pen ". Fill in the dialect yourself. : )

  7. Hi SMOL,

He's seriously a good singer! The angst and anguish emoted in his singing is fantastic! Our president should learn some lessons on emoting words from him, haha

  9. Hi SMOL,

I was in KL in the last few days....so many news about GST.

But some of my Malaysian friends who stayed in Singapore before, felt less.

Perhaps it’s essential long ago for Malaysia.

Singapore govt prefers to slap citizens progressively. Malaysia govt prefers to throw a powerful boxer Jab once in a while. While it is the same, it is different.

I think it's better to boil a frog slowly. This way, the frog won't jump out of the pot!
