This video is 20 minutes short.
Watch it only when you have time to reflect.
Its something we Chinese with our 5,000 years of wisdom already knew; but few actually practice it...
We briefly talked about it in my previous blog post.
Confucius said one!
Smol,
ReplyDeleteMunger's too self-deprecating in that classic video. He has one of the most brilliant polymath minds in the world (and he knows it 😉), allowing him to absorb disparate disciplines like a sponge, and synthesize multiple mental models to solve problems faster than a prata man can flip pratas.
But he's a negative example of "If I can do it, so can you!"
Speaking of Munger, he's chairing the Daily Journal annual meeting on 17 Feb 2am (SG time).
It'll be recorded on Yahoo Finance.
If you have a burning question for him to hopefully answer, you can send in your question to DailyJournalQuestions@cnbc.com
At 98, doubt there'll be many more chances to poke his mind.
Spur,
DeleteThat's why I prefer Charlie Munger over Warren Buffett ;)
As someone who belatedly found my place "flying" under water, I can't be baited with "If I can, so can you!"
We all have to play to our strengths; but it never hurts to know the competition out there ;)
Just thought it would be fun to poke at the liberal arts (myself) and social sciences for balance once in a while!
LOL!
P.S. Warren and Charlie are negative examples of FIRE too! When we love what we do, what's retiring?
PS: Not sure if you remember ... in the 1980s & early 1999s, SG govt was really hot on Edward de Bono & lateral thinking.
ReplyDeleteMOE officials came round to test us in Sec 4, JC, and even 1st yr Uni. Don't think I impressed anyone though LOL.
Edward de Bono & lateral thinking. LOL! My three children all attended this course as recommended by teachers and class mates too.
DeleteNow; I am switching and putting on Market Hats too - Bull, Bear, War Chest and Cash Flow for Retirement Income Hats! Retirement Income Hat for 2022 looks steady and comfortable! Preparing to switch to War Chest and Bear Hat!
Spur and CW,
DeleteI've benefitted a lot from Edward de Bono books too!
That's where I stole with pride the "ladder leaning against the wrong wall" analogy from ;)
Another example I like is the flea being "conditioned" by a jar on how high it can jump. Even if we removed the jar, the flea never jumps higher ever again...
That's why I prefer to crash got sound my head against the ceiling than before even try, ownself give ownself lots of excuses why it cannot be done...
The price I paid?
I'm bald.
