Peace be with you

I've picked up this phrase from my Christian friend who loves to invite me to church during my days in Shanghai.

You can see me using it quite often in this watering hole.

You know what?

Only this year did I truely experienced what it really meant.

Its like trying to describe the taste of durian to people who have never tasted it.

We'll only know when we have experiend it for ourselves.

Its uneventful year for me in many areas. Yet the peace and serenity I've enjoyed were amazing!

On that note, I'm wishing everyone of you who comes to this watering hole a Merry Christmas and a Super New Year!

Peace be with you all.

  4. I realized that we see peace as the opposite of a lot of emotions - excitement, anger, frustration.

Don't find peace, it's so elusive that we will never find it. Peace will come to us when we have learnt to accept all of the opposites.

Merry X'mas and Happy New Year SMOL!

    1. Merry Christmas Rainbow girl!

Yup, peace is not something that I seek with a goal or a plan beginning of the year ;)

I didn't realise it until I came across LP's reflection post and sat down to write my own monkey see, monkey do reflection post.

A blank post is the closest I can come up with to express what I feel currently.

      How do we collect stardust?

We just need to stand still and stretch our arms wide open with palms facing up ;)

Give chance. My current state is low level cultivation. Its a start :)

I've yet to reach the stage where I am still serene and at peace despite my world came crushing down in a tsunami...

      Be it losing my job.

      Business gone bankcrupt.

      Discovered I got cancer.

      Got dumped by girlfried.

Departure of people that mattered, etc...

      Namaste.

    1. CW,

      And also with you.

You would know better than anyone of us, wouldn't you ;)

Brush teeth can also end up in hospital!?

I still remember that night when mom told me she couldn't see anything at all.

What transpired was the beginning of hospital visits 3 times a week, to weekly, to bi-weekly, to monthly, to every 6 months...

Only after 2 years the hospital visits has finally turned into annually. Phew...

Thankfully it happened one year after I came back after the surgery on one of her knees.

Imagine if I were still overseas.

Or I had a fulltime job in Singapore.

I'll take uneventful boring. Thank you very much!

  7. Hi SMOL,

When I read the title of the post, I immediate think of the Arabic wishing by Muslims, "Assalamu Alaykom", meaning "peace be upon you". The proper response is "wa Alaykom Assalam", meaning "peace be with you too". I mean I heard it plenty of times, but only when I realised the meaning that I got struck by the sheer meaning of that simple phrase.

To be able to spend the day with our loved ones quietly and contently. That is peace. But we will only value it by knowing the contrast. In the 1st 2 weeks of dec, I had a few runs to A&E at sgh to send pple over. It's a good reminder to have a peaceful year to this year :)

    1. LP,

Peace be upon you and your love ones :)

Life has a way to remind us if we get too ahead of ourselves...

      I'm grateful.

  8. temperament,

There's something to be said of multi-cultural, multi-racial, and multi-religious Singapore.

As a non-believer, its a wonderful blessing to be able to banter with people of faith here in this watering hole.

Shalom. (Stolen with pride from you)

      Thanks!

      Peace be with you too.

When one is at peace with oneself, the rest will fall nicely in place ;)

  10. Good to hear you're having peace in 2019. Having peace means the person has enough. Enough good relationships, enough health, enough wealth.

Peace be with you and all of us in the new year of 2020.

Having said that, some level of discontent and disturbance is not a bad thing as it motivates one towards progress.

Thanks and best wishes to you and family too!

Ah! You talking about the "itch" ;)

Just as long its not about chasing our own tails or other people's shadows, I guess no harm?

Discontent and disturbance are holes in the heart. Do shield them from snake oils as that's what we do - seek and exploit them ;)

    2. Holes in the heart are good. Discontent is the father of progress. It's good to deliberately leave the holes there as motivation.

Healthy holes should only be patchable by a person's own actions. Actions of substance, not wayang show. If the hole can be patched by others or some snake-oil, I think something is wrong.
