This Is Why Eating Healthy Is So Hard (So Is Investing!)

Investing is hard right?

Especially for those of you who have been investing for the past 10-20 years.

Remember those "advice" you thought were "gospel" when you started your journey but no longer "true" today?

For those just started recently, if you want to have a bit of fun, write down what you think will get you to the end of the rainbow - be it trading, investing, saving, buying Toto, marry into wealth, kick-ass career; etc.

Then put this paper into an envelop and toss it away in your drawer.

10 years later, open it up to see if the world then is a straight-line extrapolation of today. Wink.

    1. CW,

      Horrible right?

I'm with temperament below. Eat what we like - but in moderation :)

      Rubbish eat; rubbish grow.

Just as long I don't get diabetes, I'm good to go ;)

  3. temperament,

I have the most dangerous visceral fats around my waist
    :(

Yup, if we don't keep it under control, it will lead to quite a lot of medical headaches down the road...

Having said that, I won't ownself frighten ownself. Its genetics and luck.

Many a "fit" person (eat right and exercise right) have just gone just like that...

    Apply to investments?

    Of course can!

Like I've just shared, those who rubbish eat rubbish grow can live till their 90s; while those who practice healthy eating and living may leave us in their 50s.

In investments, there are no such thing as "bao jiak" or sure thing!

I am reminded of this joke:

    How to make God laugh?

    Tell him your plans.

    LOL!

    1. sy sy,

      Exercise and diet.

The doctor who tells me to not let myself gain anymore weight is himself overweight...

Its like investing, theory everyone knows - but execution...

I am now slowly cutting out sugary drinks and putting less sugar in my coffee.

      Baby steps.

  5. Spare tire can easily removed if you switch to become a vegetarian and couple with regular exercise. It works for me.

    2. blackranchu,

      Good for you!

As an omnivore, I don't think I want to give up meat anytime soon ;)

I now aim for eating 70% full.

Yup. I've cut-down the amount of sugar I put in my coffee. But I'm not as "tough" as you and CW. Going all the way to black kosong is not for me.

I prefer the moderation path :)

AK, once upon a time we were all playing at the butterfly's tavern.

You now have your own 山头; I got my own watering-hole.

Glad to see you here again. Appreciate it ;)

Looking at your diet and the way you climb stairs, I am guessing you got IGT like me?

      Yes, it can be reversed.

You are hardcore; I am softporn.

      I'm a citywalker; 10,000 steps ;)

    1. Sillyinvestor,

That's why 3 mintutes "passion" thing will not be sustainable ;)

We must follow our own paths. Own pace.

When our actions have turned into habits, and they in turn become part of our lifestyle choices, only then will the results stick ;)

      That's life isn't it?

I'm sure you know of friends who never exercise, eat anything and everything, yet they look so much fitter than us!?

      $#$%&)(&^%!!#

      LOL!

I believe in spiritual health. Just as long we have laughter, a smile on our face, and a positive outlook on life, I think when we have to go, we'll still be jolly good fellas!

      生老病死

I'm at peace with it :)

  9. Someone wiser made this remark about health and wealth. When we are young, we work hard to gain wealth but in the process, we lose our health. Then, we spend our wealth to regain health. Unfortunately in many cases, health lost is not recoverable. Wealth lost is much easier to recover. Wealth without health is useless. Health without wealth can be depressing. Some go to Bedok Reservoir as the final solution.

Since you have already climbed up the mountain, I wish you both health and wealth! That's paradise on earth.

    1. hyom hyom,

      Thanks!

That's why people like me focus on the PRESENT.

I took my middle path between YOLO and over planning for a retirement that may or may not come ;)

No, health and wealth are too black and white. I much prefer this grey and messy word - happiness.

      It can mean anything!

      That's better.

      A handicap can be happy.

A poor person can be happy.

An ill person can be happy too ;)

Happiness is a state of mind.

  10. I cut down on sugar intake and fast food. Can see the result after few months. But i do indulge myself with 2 scoops of ice-cream per month and a juicy steak twice a year.

    1. Dividend Knight,

Yes, its good to give ourselves a "treat" from time to time ;)

I've cut down 2 of my favourite junk food: sugary drinks and instant noodles.

But once in a while on a long tired day, a can of ice cold Coke is heavenly :)

And on cool raining night, who knew a simple packet of instant noodles can bring so much joy to a hungry stomach!?

      LOL!
