You're So Vain - Carly Simon

You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

You had me several years ago
When I was still quite naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

Well, I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not, you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

  1. This is a song dedication to the female readers out there!

If you man is acting so "full of it"...

Play this song in the background and see if he picks up on it ;)

If he does; great! He can take a hint :)

If does not; he's a block of wood :(

At least you know now that hinting and innuendos won't work.

If you want your "bling-bling", you have to tell him straight! With pictures, if needed.

    LOL!

    1. Hey, i happen to have the original footage (VCD) when she sang this song. Somehow the original is always better.(Include the simple musical backing.) She looked quite of a cute(Swakoo). But i like it. She has a jaw that warns you not to mess around with her.

    2. Temperament,

I think in the 70s, the dressing and fashion sense are so 'obiang'.

      Everyone looks "swakoo" to me!

OK, got to put on my maggi mee pot over my head now...

    3. what obiang? when do you see male in the 70's botak?

if they are hairless, at least they wore weak. i especially like the negro big round floovy hair haha.

  2. The below lyrics reminded me of my time in Shanghai:

"But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee"

Clouds in my coffee... The things I've given up for clouds in my coffee...

Funny how some lyrics and poems can just strip you naked just like that?

    5. hey, i was only 12 back then, what do you expect from a 12 yo chinese educated kong cum listening to english songs haha.

    6. its almost like taboo listening to english song, we have to hide it from our peers you know!

    7. but the songs from the 70's were just irresistable.

    8. the term "snooker guard" probably invented right around our time. its a form of gambling where multiple player can play (snooker are for 2 player only).

i particular like this game becos its the most easily manupulated game. if you are playing against me and my friend, it almost impossible for you to win no matter how good you are. you will be torn between us haha. i will guard against you and my partner will break you and the reverse is also true. hence the term snooker guard haha.

    9. the other popular one is card pool game, also invented right around our time.

before that we were playing using "seeds", very time wasting haha. with the cards, it makes more "opportunities" that means more money flowing around the table.

the least popular one is the "stiter", with sticks sticking around the table, usually popular amoung the older guys.

    10. When I was in Montgomery Ward, the boss was a Hong Konger.

They taught me this fun game call: Chor Dai Dee

      2 is the biggest card.

We play after work; even coming back on Saturdays to "gamble".

Small stakes but it taught me the difference between "lun" or patiently wait for the big win, and "zhao" or running if I sense someone has a strong hand :)

      Can apply to trading too!

  4. Hi Jared

The old songs had much stronger melodies then. Classical music sounds better and better the older I get...heheh...

    Be well and prosper.

    1. Panzer,

I was laughing to myself when I heard the DJs play the 80s "oldies".

OMG! The songs during my teenage years are now "oldies"!?

Yup, the classical hits have outlasted modern pop :)

  5. Hi Jared

An "oldie" but a "goodie" :-)
